Viking Baby

According to my BabyWeekly newsletter, "At eight months old, babies usually range from 25.25 inches long and 15.25 pounds (10th percentile) to 28.5 inches long and 20.5 pounds (90th percentile)."

Emma turns eight months on Sunday, and she is 30.3 inches (77 centimeters) and 20.9 pounds (9.5 kilos).

December in Kolding

New pictures, including pictures from Lars and my 70th Birthday party brunch (You see, I turned 40, he turned 30... that equals 70). Lars and I both got a stomach virus the morning of the party and we were miserable all day. We managed to show up, but I don't remember much of it unfortunately. It was especially disappointing because my friend Jim Kendall was visiting for the week-end and met Lars and Emma for the first time. I do remember the comment that someday we'll look back and laugh... that day has yet to arrive (I'm still mourning the loss of eggs benedict, bloody marys and a really good wine tasting). Tragedy + time = comedy.

Long time coming

I finally am taking a few moments to update the site with some new pictures of Emma. The picture taking and site updating has slowed down considerably since going back to work. I'm still getting over the nasty virus that made Lars and I both sick on the day of our 70th Birthday party (rotten luck that). Will hopefully have some pictures from that day up soon.

The Mommy Brain

Does motherhood make you smarter? It doesn't feel that way to me when my only dinner topic conversation seems to be about breast feeding... perhaps I'm confusing "smarter" with "entertaining"...

Here's an article from TIME about a new book that offers scientific evidence that having a baby makes you smarter. Read it here.

Water Baby

Emma loves water now--she's come a long way from screaming whenever we gave her a bath. Here are some new pictures of her in the bathtub and at the pool (so cute in her little bathing suit!).

I keep taking bathtub pictures so I have something truly embarassing to show to her teenage friends and boys that want to date her. Ha!

Sune and Jette Got Married

Lars was the best man at his friend Sune's wedding yesterday. (We went to Greece with Sune and Jette in 2002 and they and their son Jacob are in many of my posted pictures) It was a beautiful wedding and quite fun to be out without the baby--she got to spend the day with her grandparents.

Tooth

Emma is getting her first tooth today! She cried quite a bit more than usual before going to sleep tonight, but not nearly as much as she could have. She's such a trooper.

Four Months

Emma is now four months old. She had her check up this week, she is 68 centimeters (27") and 8 kilos (17 lbs)! She growing so fast and I finally got tired of feeding her every two hours during the night so we started giving her real food (rice cereal and carrots so far). She loves it and she did sleep through the night twice last week--however a slight cold has significantly set us back the past two nights. In fact, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The weather has been great here the past couple of days. We took Emma to the park and she and I visited her Aunt Anja and cousin Frederick. Here are a few pictures. Click here to see them.

Kinder, gentler updates

For my updates, I've been exporting from iPhoto and manually changing the pages to fit my ChezLeah blog. But, you can publish photos directly to the web using iPhoto with a .Mac account, so I've decided to give that a try. Anything to save time these days...

So, click here to check out the new pictures of Emma.

Camera Shy

Apparently Emma isn't ready for her close up yet... we keep trying to get her to smile for the camera, since she is smiling and laughing much of the time. We managed to get a few good pictures.

Emma Update

She's just past two months now and smiling all the time--except when we point a camera at her. She's also "talking" up a storm, making lovely baby cooing noises all day long. She's almost 14lbs (6.2 kilos at last weighing) and about 25 inches (63c). She's not sleeping through the night, but she's such a joy I can't complain!

Young American

I have an appointment in August to register Emma as a U.S. citizen and to get her American passport. Here is her (very cute) passport picture.

New Pictures

Here's a new batch of pictures of Emma from the past few weeks. It's been much harder than I expected to post updates, she has a way of keeping me very busy! But all is well, she had her first doctor visit today and she's now a very healthy 5.4 kilos (12 lbs). She's also started smiling at Lars and I, which is the cutest thing ever.

We had some pictures taken of her on Saturday, along with Claus and Anja. In addition to the individual shots of Emma (below) and Frederik, we got a picture of the two of them together. It's very sweet and will be added later.

Hare Today

Our backyard is still a wildlife haven, as demonstrated by the hare that has taken up residency there. He's seems quite comfortable and we've decided to let him stay for as long as he likes (I'm not going to argue after watching "Sexy Beast").

P.S. Still no baby.

Still Not Yet

I have four more days until my official due date (April 28th) and it could happen at anytime, but it feels like it never will...

Still waiting

I'm trying to be patient, waiting during these last days of my pregnancy. I officially have 13 days until my due date, and of course it could go beyond that. In the meantime, I just get bigger and bigger... but I just don't think I can stretch anymore!

Die Spammers, Die!

It obviously isn't enough to get hundreds of unsolicited emails a day, now they are trying to hijack my guest book! Just today, I got about 25 spam guest book entries, which I manually removed. I did find a great web site that adds a little extra step to signing the book, but will hopefully cut down on this scourge of mankind that feels it necessary to assault poor innocent ex-pat guest books!

Baby Shower

An update to the site in record time! Yesterday I was given an American style baby shower by my friend Sanne. My sister Karen had sent a bunch of decorations from the U.S., which really added to the experience, but of course made me miss my sisters even more.

My friend Camilla put together a "spec" document (web producers to the end) for the project of Emma's life. It's a scrapbook with major firsts (first birthday, first day of school, etc) and guests picked an event and created a collage. There are pages in the book for actual pictures... it was a really fun activity for a baby shower.

I have a few pictures. I had also bought a disposable camera, but we didn't finish the pictures on it, I'll finish it during our annual Easter lunch which is coming up in just under two weeks.

I just keep getting bigger and bigger...

New Addition

Lars is an uncle! Claus and Anja had a little boy, Frederik, on February 4th. He was 50 cm (19") and weighed 2.8 k (6 lbs). Everyone is doing well.

Personally, I am getting quite anxious for the arrival of Frederik's cousin...

U.S. Trip

Lars and I took a two week vacation in October, visiting Michigan and New York. We wanted to do it before I got too pregnant, and we hadn't seen my friends or family since we got married. I'm just now getting around to putting what few pictures of the trip we have on the site. I was pretty slammed with morning sickness and jetlag, especially since I couldn't rely on my usual ambien/melatonin cocktail. (Ambien for the plane there and back, melatonin every night when you arrive... that and a serious moisturizer used repeatedly in flight with lots of water will definitely help the lag).

In Detroit we stayed with my friend from highschool Mary Beth, saw my friend Cindy and had dinner at Karen's with Blake, Becky and Constance. In New York, we had a small gathering which Nic kindly offered to host. It was so great to see everyone there! We stayed with Tina in her fabulous new apartment (unfortunately no pictures) and did a couple of touristy things like the Circle Line. Before I left, I thought a vacation in the states would give me my U.S. fix (especially with the election), but I have to say that it made me even more homesick.
